So my 4 year old cousin received this doll for her birthday. My family and I looked at in disbelief “Wow that doll is skinny!” I was shocked.
Things like this skinny doll is what makes girls want to be skinny. Society makes it seem that in order to be beautiful you must be skinny. Dolls like these send a wrong message to little girls - yes I know, how can a four year old know any better - well she might not notice it now but in a couple of years she will looking at her doll hoping to be that skinny. Why isn’t there a plus size barbie doll? Why must all of them be just skinny and perfect? Our society is corrupted. A girl is never skinny enough or if she is skinny she is too skinny - hello, perfection does not exist among human beings.
It seems like our society is discriminating plus size women - if you walk into Forever 21 you will see that there is a specific section called “Plus Size”. Why can’t their clothing be in the racks where the “skinny” clothes is at? Little things give girls the idea that they must be skinny, some will work out to get into a size three and if they don’t lose it they will look towards anorexia/bulimia. It will seriously hurt a girl physically and emotionally.
